Fast bowler Chamika Gunasekara made his ODI debut in the first ODI against Zimbabwe today (16th) in the Super League. Zimbabwe captain Craig Irwin won the toss and elected to bat first.
The Sri Lankan team, which last played in an ODI, enters today's match with five changes. Avishka Fernando will not be included in the squad due to Kovid infection, Dhananjaya de Silva's paternal leave and Wanindu Hasaranga's rest. Veterans Jayawickrema and Dushmantha Chameera will not play in today's squad.
They will be replaced by Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Jeffrey Wandersey, Nuwan Pradeep and Chamika Gunasekera.
Chamika Gunasekara is the 203rd ODI player to win an ODI in Sri Lanka. The 22-year-old fast bowler, who is playing cricket from Ananda College, Colombo, took the wickets of the selectors by six wickets in the recently concluded four-day match against Pakistan 'A' cricket team. He was named in the squad for the two-match Test series against the West Indies, but was left out of the squad.
